Wow Spotify hits 40 Million Users!!

Posted on May 21, 2014

Today May 21st 2014, Spotify announced that it has reached 40 Million active users across the 56 markets Worldwide. A quarter of the active users, or 10 Million if you can’t do the math, are premium paying subscribers. This isn’t just great news for music lovers but for the music industry also which has received over $1 Billion Dollars in royalties since 2008.

Speaking of the momentous occasion, Daniel Ek CEO and Founder said “We’ve had an amazing year, growing from 20 markets to 56 as people from around the world embrace streaming music. 10 Million subscribers is an important milestone for both Spotify and the entire music industry. We’re widening our lead in the digital music space and will continue to focus on getting everyone in the world to listen to more music.”

Since Spotify’s launch in 2008, users have created over 1.5 billion playlists, collectively creating or updating over 5 million playlists each day. I recently blogged about the changes Spotify has implemented this year which have made creating, sharing and discovering music easier than ever. They have had a successful facelift too unlike some plastic celebrities we could name, it looks pretty great!

So what artists have helped Spotify reach this milestone? Eminem is the number 1 streamed artist of all time, seeming as Eminem or Marshall Mathers hasn’t been that active in recent years this is surprising news indeed. Rihanna and Katy Perry are the top female artists, giving the amount of mega hip throwing hits these two popsicles churn out I’m not surprised one bit! ‘Wake Me Up’ by Avicci is the most streamed song with more than 235 Million streams…….I bet you’re singing it right now!

And the Spotify good news just keeps coming, this week we launched our first Ad Page with Cadburys Ireland Marvellous Mix Ups. We think it’s pretty great but don’t just take our word for it, check it out here! Cadburys will help you create your very own Marvellous music Mix Ups, just drop one of your playlists into a they’re mixer. It simply adds in similar songs and optimizes the running order. I loved my Banana Caramel playlist so much I started salivating, it may have had something to do with my latest diet but it sounded great! The mixer can also help you create a playlist from the type of music you’ve listened to before, you can’t really ask for much more than that! Be sure to give it a Twirl (see what I did there!)New-Picture-14
